Winter Bus Shelter

Sustainable Design

Located outside the East Falls campus at the corner of Henry Ave and School House Lane, the goal is to design a bus shelter responsive to the local climate, culture, and experience while applying passive strategies to improve thermal comfort. The proposed design is achieved through observation, research, data collection, and testing of ideas using Rhinoceros, Enscape, and PMV.

Microclimate Design Sketch Revisions
  • Instead of tambor doors, there will be operable panels with a mechanism similar to jalousie windows that allow the users to open and close the space manually to allow or block the wind depending on the climate conditions.

  • These panels will be placed strategically to follow the sun’s path and the wind direction, so shade can be provided during the whole year and air flow can be controlled as wished.
