Swaying from the Norm

Library Design

"Swaying from the Norm" is an institutional project for the Brooklyn Public Library, Arlington branch, where banned books are one of the main programs. Inspired by religious and political systems banning books to keep people from swaying against the norms, the library itself is a living space that breaks away from the system making it a safe space for silent voices and minorities. The experience encourages patrons of all ages to be curious about reading and books by using modular shelves as parameters for a curvilinear circulation, and colors and organic forms to represent the community's diversity.
